Your local audiology clinic in Bishopdale, Christchurch
Welcome to Bishopdale Hearing! We are your 100% locally owned comprehensive audiology clinic.
At Bishopdale Hearing, you will feel comfortable that you are getting the best independent service with competitive and ethical pricing, all while supporting a truly local business. You can trust that you’ll have access to a comprehensive range of audiology services, plus hearing devices available from all leading manufacturers, with only the most suitable treatment being recommended for you.
Our comprehensive hearing tests assess your level of hearing ability in a sound-attenuated booth. There are many medical reasons for a hearing assessment, and the results can tell us a lot about your overall health.
Hearing aids come in a variety of styles and while we can fit all available manufacturers and styles, our audiologist will provide individualised care and recommend what is best for you to suit your lifestyle.
If you are experiencing a feeling of pressure, dullness or itchy ears, you might have a build-up of wax, and an ear wax removal could be just what you need. We can also treat some outer ear infections.
An Auditory Processing Assessment is a batch of tests to assess how someone understands sound. People with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) may have normal hearing, but difficulty understanding speech or getting sounds mixed up.
There are disorders within our vestibular system that can affect people’s balance, plus cause episodes of dizziness or migraines.
Our Audiologists are specially trained to assess and treat common balance disorders such as vertigo.

Frequently asked questions
Do you offer free hearing tests?
At Bishopdale Hearing, we do not offer quick free screening tests, as we believe your hearing health deserves proper clinical care.
Our hearing tests are comprehensive hearing assessments conducted by a qualified audiology professional.
These thorough clinical appointments are designed to accurately assess your hearing, so we can discuss the best solutions for your whole hearing health.
Do I need a referral to see an audiologist?
No referral is required to book an appointment at Bishopdale Hearing.
Some people choose to visit their GP first, and we are happy to work alongside your doctor if needed. However, in most cases you can simply book directly with our clinic in Bishopdale, Christchurch.
What are the signs I might need hearing aids?
Hearing changes often happen gradually, so they can be easy to miss at first. Common signs include:
- Asking others to repeat themselves
- Turning the television up louder than usual
- Difficulty following conversations in groups
- Struggling to hear clearly in background noise
- Family members commenting on your hearing
If you are unsure, a professional hearing assessment can provide clear answers and peace of mind.
What happens during a hearing appointment?
Your appointment begins with a discussion about your hearing concerns, lifestyle and medical history. We then carry out a comprehensive hearing assessment in a quiet, sound-treated room using specialist equipment.
After the assessment, we explain your results in clear, straightforward language.
If hearing aids or other solutions are recommended, we will discuss suitable options and answer any questions you may have.
There is no pressure — our focus is on helping you make an informed decision about your hearing health.
What is microsuction ear wax removal?
Microsuction is a safe and effective method of removing excess ear wax. It uses gentle suction and specialist equipment to carefully clear the ear canal under direct visual guidance.
Unlike traditional ear syringing, microsuction does not involve flushing the ear with water. The procedure is typically quick and well tolerated, and many people notice an immediate improvement in hearing once the blockage is removed.
